It was Nora's birthday, but nobody said "Happy birthday" all day.
She was sad. "Did everyone forget?" she thought.
After school, she walked home slowly.
When she opened the door, the house was dark and quiet.
Suddenly, the lights came on. "Surprise!" shouted everyone.
All her friends and family were there, with balloons and music.
Her mother brought a big chocolate cake with eleven candles.
Nora made a wish and blew out the candles.
Her best present was a little kitten. She called it Pepper.
It was the best birthday of her life.
